Hunker Down

We have all had our place in the sun haven’t we?  You know how bright the sun shines when we try to nudge our way through traffic in front of everyone else and then plead ignorance when we put on our blinker to get ahead of the other 57.5 cars which have been in line for 30 minutes.

Well, it was Hyundai vs Honda the other morning and it was enough to start me laughing, as it reminded me so much of how we are in our dealings with our fellow brothers and sisters.  As servants, we would have waited our turn in line and been the ever patient, wonderful person that everyone knows us to be (WHO SAID THAT)?  We would have said, OK, I will wait my turn, be late for work, miss my first appointment, don’t return the phone call that I promised I would do by 8AM and the list goes on and on.  But, my friends, did we wait our turn?

Alexandre Dumas tells us “All human wisdom is summed up in two words, —wait and hope.”

Why should we wait?  Waiting is not a word in our vocabulary is it?  We must be in control at all times and who are these people that are telling me to wait?  I am successful, drive a fine car, have an incredible home, take great vacations and am the ruler of my own little world and you are going to tell me to wait.  Get a grip!  It is not going to happen.

The Hyundai edged closer to the entering lane and then the Honda moved faster, thus putting a stop to the cutting in of the Honda’s own private, G__ given lane, a lane that was destined for greatness only for Hondas, not Hyundais.  This was the lane that came with the car – you mean, you didn’t get the memo?  Slowly edging forth, the drivers look at each other as if to say, oh yeah, just hide and watch and see my maneuver!

Don’t we do that with our fellow human beings?  Don’t we  tell them in our own subtle ways that we will ALLOW them to move ahead, but not too much.  Don’t we give false encouragement but not mean it?  Don’t we pat someone on the back and say job well done, knowing full well that WE should have got the credit for it?  Don’t we give just a little tolo much  responsibility to those who threaten us with their knowledge, knowing full well that they will not succeed?

So which lane are you in?  Which car are you driving?

Proverbs 3:27….Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.

So go ahead, forgive and let the car in your lane and laugh.   Why should you laugh; because,  my friends, you did the same thing last week!

Now that is really a story for another day.

Blessings.
