Life’s Little Annoyances

No one is safe, not anyone.  That sadistic, conniving, little soul that lurks in our being rears its ugly head every so often, perhaps daily, to annoy us to the point of a 200 degree Starbucks Tall White Mocca.  You know the one I am talking about, you know, that little person inside of us who says, “GET EM,” “They deserve it.”  “Are you really going to let them get away with that?”  “Did you see what just happened?”

“I cannot believe that they stood there in line for 15 minutes and when it was time to pay, had to find their wallet at the bottom of the purse, only to find out it was in another bag.”  You know what I mean and don’t you try to deny it?   Then there is the one I like the best – driving in line at the bank.  When one gets in line at the bank, it is either for a deposit or withdrawal.  AHH, the little man says as he is pumping our heart to a fever pitch, can you believe that he was in line all this time and then when it was time to make the deposit, he had no pen.  The little man is actually in a fever pitch himself when the following occurs:  An individual is in line, listening to music at full blast, with the windows open, and as he pulls up to the window, he is asked to turn the music down, and then, How may I help you sir?”

Oh, I forgot to get out my deposit.  Would you mind waiting?  The little man is chomping at the bits now and he is so reved up that he is beyond control and we blow, starting with the extension of a hand extremity, loud manisfestations and better yet – LAY ON THE HORN MAN< LAY ON THE HORN!!!!!

What is that laughter inside of you when this happens?

Ecclesiastes 7:9…Do not be quick to anger, for anger lodges in the bosom of fools. Strong, powerful words, but how do we control life’s annoyances at the precise moment of confrontation?

For me, it is the saying that I taught myself years ago:  “Oh well, they did it to me again.”  The little man inside of me is furious.  He has not had his way.  He reminds us that we cannot let this pass – I just sing.  He tells us that life without being in absolute control of every situation is a life without purpose. He tells us that this will happen again and that we need to put a stop to it, once and for all.  The best one, however, is,”I’m not going to be there for you the next time to tell you what to do.”   SO< LISTEN UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As servants, we should  try to imagine what is the cause of these annoyances and if in the process we exhibit less than mature behavior, are we using up this incredible energy of ours in order to placate our egos or could we use this energy for someone who is tired – perhaps,………………. just of living.

Shakespeare tells us to “Make the coming hour o’erflow with joy, And pleasure drown the brim.”

“Did he really do it to you again?”

We are also told that  “It is annoying to be honest to no purpose.”

What is your annoyance?  What is your purpose?

Now, that really is a discussion for another day.

Blessings.
