Romans 13:1-7…..let every person be subjet to the governing authorities; for there is no authority except from G__, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by G__. Therefore, whoever resists authority resists what G__ has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For Rulers are not a terror to good conduct; but to bad……..Therefore one must be subject, not only because of wrth but also because of conscience. For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are G__’s servants, busy with this very thing. Pay to all what is due them – taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
It is an election year.
Can anyone of the readers really tell anyone the whole truth? Do we know the whole truth? Do we WANT to know the whole truth? What would we do with the truth if we really knew. My Grandmother, after a meeting with a very wise and influential national figure, told me that if Americans really knew what was going on, they would run and hide.
Scriptures tell us to support and respect our leaders but we get so involved in the politics of a particular party and its leader that nothing else seems to matter, as, you see, MY PARTY, knows it all and the OTHER PARTY has caused all the problems.
Do we totally dismiss family members with whom we disagree? Do we throw our friends to the winds if they say something that we do not agree with? Why is it in politics if we do not like certain people, everything they say is wrong and they are not even worthy of hearing what they have to say?
If you are totally honest with yourselves, how many politicians can you name who can stand up to scrutiny and how many really have the best interests at heart of the American people without an agenda?
Proverbs 11-14….Where there is no guidance, a nation falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. Before that are these prophetic words: Whoever belittles another lacks sense, but an intelligent person remains silent.
We owe our allegiance to so many people who have put us in power – and, don’t we just love that aphrodisiac – ah, the smell of power.
We as Americans are swayed too easily or believe promises too easily if it benefits us in our own thinking or business interests. It should be like the husband and wife team who have been together for a long time. They are able to brush away the unimportant areas of their relationship and concentrate on the important things – there is no agenda – oh, I’m sorry, there is an agenda – I want to please you and love you and thank you for just being there for me.
Are our politicians happy to be there for us?
There is so much talk about jobs, jobs and more jobs but no one seems to want to discuss the real issues of jobs. We have the Bill of Rights – but are we really equal. We seem to want to penalize the rich, yes there are those who use the system; however, it is these business owners who have risked everything for the sake of an idea.
Yes, there is greed among certain higher level people in business – exteme bonuses, salaries, and non concern for the persons who have worked hard to produce these bonuses. It is out of control and we need to take control with ideas and doing what is right. We need to hold hands across the aisle and forget who lined our pockets to get us in power and remember that worker with two jobs who does not want his wife to work so that she can stay home with the kids, or the two worker family that does not have time to spend with the kids, thus creating special needs in another area.
Are we as Americans innocent?
We manufacture thousands of goods across the world and many out of our country. Let’s bring our shirt making home, our shoes home, all of our auto parts, our computer chips, and the list goes on. OK – we now have done this. Now, which one of you who is now paying 35.00 for a shirt will pay 80.00 for that same shirt, as you see the American worker must have insurance, 401K, Family Medical leave, vacation, bonuses, sick pay and bereavement time.
This is certainly the right of every American to want these things, but at what cost?
We have all heard the phrase ….Come and let us reason together….There are better words and words that we should be mindful of our entire lives…..
In this election year, listen to the words of King Solomon in Proverbs 2:1-10….My child, if you accept my words and treasure up my commandments within you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; if you indeed cry out for insight, and raise your voice for understanding; if you seek it like silver, and search for it as for hidden treasures – then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of G__. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk blamelessly, guarding the paths of justice and preserving the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
Don’t we as Americans want equity for everyone regardless of political party, job status, economic situation, religion and color?
Ask for guidance in your thoughts prior to this important election and do your homework on all the issues, just as you would do in your own businesses and with your families.
I leave you with this…..Proverbs 3:21….Keep sound wisdom and prudence, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.
Blessings.
