My Grandfather learned the value of hard, honest work at an early age. He was taught that if a man did not work, he did not eat.
One of my prized possessions is a ledger sheet from my Grandfather, in his own handwriting, where he records the sales at his store. He owned the old fashioned General Store, where you came during the week to get your clothes, food, equipment, etc. His store had everything under one roof – something for everyone.
How did you pay?
On a Handshake, if you did not have the cash at hand, was how you paid.
My Grandfather believed in Proverbs14:31…Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but those who are kind to the needy honor him.
He believed in the word of honest people who honestly worked hard, were caring neighbors, helped everyone in need, no matter what the circumstances were and who had a servant mentality. They gave of themselves in service to others.
Have we come so far that we in business have to keep secret ledgers of business meetings, personal meetings, group conversations…this in order to protect ourselves and to protect our jobs. Do you have to watch what you say, to whom you say it, and most importantly, who are you spending your time with AT work and OUTSIDE of work?
A man’s word should be his bond but that is no longer the case and we wonder why we are in the shape we are in now.
Since we spend a great percentage of our time at work, shouldn’t we have this servant mentality in everything that we do so that EVERYONE is on the same page and that there are no hidden agendas? What is your agenda?
We have now come to the point where we walk through the doors of our businesses and think about all the negatives instead of the positives, or in the reverse, we refuse to acknowledge that there are negatives that need correcting for the betterment of all.
When one of my Grandfather’s customers passed away, he took out the ledger and by that person’s name wrote these three simple words: PAID IN FULL.
If in your normal work day things just do not seem to be going your way, and in a way that is best for business, let me help you in your decision making process. With everyone working together, it can happen.Wouldn’t you like to write off all of the bad things done to you, thought about you, said about you and turn around and offer your hand in servanthood to everyone?
Now, that is a discussion for another day.
Blessings
