New Year

Are you caught up in New Year’s Resolutions?

We seem to put off until the actual day the things that we should be doing every day prior to the celebration of the first day of the New Year.

Psalms 33:3-5….Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.  For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.  He loves righteousness and justice……

Shouldn’t we have righteousness in our hearts at work every day, not just think about change on the first day of every New Year?

Do we really know each employee?  Do we really care? Do we really want equality for everyone?

Are we really responsible for each other’s actions?  What is our responsibility in change?

How can we help?

Ezekiel 36:26….A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh….  A giving heart.

Is your heart ready to give?

Are you willing to train your fellow worker to make him better?  Are you willling to look and listen to changes in behavior affecting performance?  Is the person working next to you your real brother or sister?  Are you willing to demand the best of your fellow worker with love in your heart or with a heart of stone, do you admonish without sentiment?

How long is our resolution?  Are our resolutions fireside chats or in the trenches hard work?

What makes us think about change or feel the need to change?  It only verifies what we already know, i.e., we need to change.  Hence the old thought – I am aware that change is necessary in order for me to become who I  am supposed to be.

With a helping hand, guide your fellow workers by going over and over again what persons went over and over again with you.  Give praise when praise is due for accomplishments above and beyond expectations, which are based on the individual’s desire to do more than the norm.

As the New Year begins, think of others before self and become the servant that all are called to be.  The realization that you are a servant cannot be discussed, examined, thought about or imagined.   When you reach the point in your lives that you instinctively do for others out of the generosity of your heart without thinking, you have become the servant you were called to be.  It has been said that you must have the heart for the Hospitality Business.  Let us go a step beyond – you must have the heart 365 days per year wanting to show itself in service to others.

Now, that really is a discussion for another day.

Blessings.
