The word for life.
What does it say to you?
In my life, there are so many things that have happened that I wish that I could take back; however, what is done is done. Along the way, I was given the gift of forgiveness even in the worst of situations. Matthew 5:43-44…You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you….How do you forgive and pray for an employee that seemingly gets away with everything and is under the wing of a high ranking supervisor?
Early in my career, I must admit that I did not understand what my life was all about and what direction it must take. I did, however, feel blessed that I absolutely loved serving people.
Can you serve a fellow employee who is always late and is never reprimanded? Can you serve a customer who is constantly rude? Can you serve an owner who knows everything much to the detriment of all the employees?
How do you continue in your present situation, maintaining your standards while all others around you do not?
Servant Hospitality must be an integral part of who we are at all times. It should be the goal for all of us to submit ourselves to the needs of others, no matter how painful it may be at the time. In today’s society, more emphasis is being given on service with artificial sayings, artificial greetings and tell all books that promise instant success if you would do everything that the book says…..and….there are always examples.
Is your heart in concert with your mind? I think, therefore I am….we have heard this so many times….Servant Hospitality requires no thought……..Situations provoke us into doing good for others WITHOUT thought…WITHOUT regard for what may happen…WITH love and patience and a helping hand, we make life just a tiny bit easier and we do not have to THINK about compassion.
As a musician, I learned techniques through years of practice. In the hospitality industry, one learns HOW to handle situations, HOW to solve problems, HOW to hire, HOW to train, HOW to schedule, HOW to sell, HOW to carry through. We are not taught, however, HOW to forgive, HOW to have a soul or HOW to love those who betray us by actions that may cause us to lose our vision.
The soul is a gift that comes with “Ribbons only.” Our goal, however, is to have Gold and Silver Wrapping with multi colored ribbons of all colors of the rainbow. One cannot be truly successful in life without acknowledging the Creator and studying the word. Everything that we do in life is covered in Scripture and our lessons in life are there for everyone. Psalm 39 should be ready every day.
Servant Hospitality eventually requires no thought. The next time you encounter a situation where you want to walk off the job, let loose of your temper, or just simply have no desire to go to work – think about this- WHO CAN I HELP TODAY?
Now, that really is a discussion for another day.
Blessings.
