Being a servant requires constant attention to your surroundings and more importantly, being aware of people around you.
Is their need your need?
Is there proper space between the two of you?
While standing in line at the checkout counter of the local supermarket, I held my basket back from the lady checking out in front of me to give her the space that she needed so that she would not feel that I was crowding her. Behind me, a lady started putting her things on the conveyor belt, hitting her purse into my side and just standing in my allotted space. There was a time when the lady would have received my wrath; however, in my teachings of late, patience and understanding are the keys to servanthood, whereby we try to reason why this is happening and in so doing, we become the servant to that person, and in this case, literally stepping aside to help another.
Proverbs 3:27….Do not withold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.
We want our way in business and we get angry when we are either not acknowledged or get our way. We want to be in control and let no one stand in the way. Will you allow yourself to suffer for the needs of others?
The servant mentality requires the turning of the cheek and taking what is given to you and being happy about it.
Have all of you now said, “GOOD LUCK ON THAT ONE BUDDY.”
Whether or not you believe this, you will make a difference in someone’s life because he or she senses that you truly care and that if just for that moment, you have given of yourself in the service of others.
As a server or bartender in a restaurant, don’t you just want to wring someone’s neck at times? Don’t you wish that you could really say what is on your mind?
My experiences have taught me that it is joy to encounter hardship and this process requires a total commitment of your mind to turn things around for the better. Sometimes, people just wantto be heard. As servants, we listen and perhaps not even speak – just smile with reassurance that you care.
Wouldn’t you like for your business to have this kind of staff who really care – concerned not with self but others?
Now, that really is a discussion for another day.
BLESSINGS.
