Is Patience a Virtue

Are we born with patience or do we acquire it?  Do our parents teach us in subtle ways how to handle situations?  Are we allowed to get away with things because it is just too much effort to correct and instruct?  What is my time out for? Are there consequences for my actions?

Galatians 5:22…..By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self control –   powerful words indeed for a life well lived.

How do you tell a fellow employee that you have no control over the last minute decisions that have to be made because the paying customer has made the changes?  How do you do this in a gentle way so that everyone is on board with the changes?

Does change produce negativity of the mind and spirit?

Does change bring out who we really are?

What have we been hiding?

How many times do you tell  fellow employees how to do things and they just simply don’t get it?  What is your breaking point?

Kindness goes a long way in the hospitality industry and listening is the key and with our attentiveness to detail, we can persuade our clientele to go in the direction we wish for them to go.

Must we always have things our way?  In our struggles with the educational process of the nuts and bolts of our industry, we think we have all the answers, don’t we?  In some cases, we may; however, if our minds are open and we are not so eaten up with our titles, we may find out that even the newest employee may have the solution.

Don’t you just love companies that spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to bring in a consultant to tell you what is wrong with your business?  Is your patience being tested, as you know that any number of employees who are committed could have solved the problem.  We just don’t want to listen to our subordinates at times – WAKE UP PEOPLE – they are in the trenches and know what is going on daily.

Are you impatient with your direct superior?  Scriptures tell us to obey our bosses and to do what they ask – there are of course exceptions.

Has your patience run thin when you know there are deadlines to meet and everyone has known about these deadlines for more than a month and two days prior, everyone has to scramble, spend overtime and make adjustments simply because the person in charge could not get it together.  And then to add insult to injury, the overriding decision maker allows this to go on consistently.  Has your patience come to a breaking point?

Early in my career, I walked off the job many times, and was fired or politely laid off for pointing out management errors, that could have been avoided.

Have you ever felt the blood rising from your feet to your head faster than the speed of light?  Have you ever held your tongue until it bled? Have you smiled when you wanted to just scream?  Have you seen many good people leave and the bad ones stay? Have you been impatient with yourself when you could not figure out the solution to a problem?  Have you ever felt jealousy when another employee came up with the solution?

Walking away from these situations whenever possible helps and guarding the tongue and its cannon is the answer.

Now that is a discussion for another day.

Blesssings…..
